January 27, 2025 at 10:58 amI (23M) gave my credit card to a close friend (24F) to use for a while, trusting her. She ended up spending around 97,000 in a single bill cycle, and then another 10,000 in the next. The problem is, sheβs now left town without any notice and is not answering my calls or messages.
Iβm currently unemployed, and this amount of money is way beyond what I can afford to pay off. Iβm at a loss here and donβt know what to do.
Has anyone dealt with something like this before? How can I legally get my money back or take action to protect myself? Any advice or suggestions would be greatly helpful please help . -

If you are aware it’s on you.Because you voluntary shared card details and the card
#
Your only defense is to tell you did not had the card or authorised those trsanctions-

January 27, 2025 at 11:23 amExactly your best bet is to state you were unaware of those transactions otherwise the bank won’t be taking any responsibility and you would have to pay it in the end-

January 27, 2025 at 11:04 amYou can try disputing the expense but its unlikely to succeed. You gave the friend the pin to use the card I assume, so that means you have authorized the transactions.
For now, try converting the balance into an emi. It sucks but at least you’ll be able to manage the expense without getting sacked into the credit card debt trap

January 27, 2025 at 11:08 amSimply call your bank and immediately tell them that these are all unauthorised transactions and that somebody misused your credit card without your consent. You might need to go as far as report it stolen if you want to have weight in your case, and also, to prevent further misuse. And needless to say, if you turn around and say things like, βI donβt want my friend to get into trouble..β etc., and what not, then youβre better off accepting that youβve lost that money.
The law can only get you back what was stolen from you. If it is found that you had your consent in any shape way or form, thatβll end up being on you.
Without going into technicalities, Itβs not gonna be a fun ride to win a case on the merit of, βI did allow her to use it, but not this muchβ..

January 27, 2025 at 7:24 pmSo? Receiving a notification of transaction is not considered consent given in a court of law. Plus OP had clearly mentioned that these transactions were done not so far apart from each other with the first one itself being more than 90 % of the contested amount. Are you hard of brain cells or something?-

January 27, 2025 at 10:04 pmItβs not consent , but he was informed by the bank by sms , and there is a rule that any fraudulent transaction must be reported by the user within 48 hours ,, he did not
He cannot report it after 2 billing cycles

January 27, 2025 at 11:55 amThis is a funny post and the responses are funnier.
The OP shares his card with complete knowledge that the card is being used by someone who isn’t authorized to use it. So it wasn’t stolen.
On top he also shares OTP which the bank has created to secure payment transactions.
And now wants ways to get away from paying the bill.Ans everyone else is busy suggesting him ways how he can get away with his wrong doing.
Had a good laugh π€£

January 27, 2025 at 11:58 amYou have no legal standing here. When you give away the credit card issued to you for your use only for someone else’s use, you breach the contract with the bank. The bank is not liable for any losses incurred by this action – meaning you can’t dispute any transactions and are fully liable to pay the outstanding balance.
Trying to file a fake case of stolen card will only back fire on you. If the transactions involved PIN or OTP use , then it was obviously not stolen. You can’t simply make a cybercrime complaint about phone being hacked and all that nonsense.
This is the cost of ignorance and careless handling of credit card. You just have to absorb the loses and move on.

January 27, 2025 at 2:26 pmYou have learnt a valuable lesson on friends, trust and money. The bank is unlikely to accept that you were unaware of these transactions. The only way forward for you would be to pay the outstanding amount as soon as possible and put this behind you.
If your friend has bought anything, you can ask them to hand over those products to you. You maybe able to resell and recover some money. If she doesnt – well then you can file a complaint of theft of property bought with your money.
Call your bank and figure out how you can repay without the interest hitting you. You may also need to tap your father for an interest free loan to tide you over.
