April 26, 2026 at 6:22 amHi everyone, Iโm looking for some advice on a trademark issue. In late 2024 (about 16-17 months ago), I filed two trademark applications under Class 30 through a major online legal filing agency (IndiaFilings).
Both applications successfully cleared the initial screening and the status changed to **”Formalities Chk Pass”**. However, they have been completely stuck on this exact status ever since. Neither application has moved to “Marked for Exam” or any subsequent stage.
Since the filing agency holds the TM-48 (Power of Attorney), they receive all official communications, but so far, they haven’t been able to provide any progress or resolution.
I know the Indian Trademark Registry has backlogs, but 16+ months just to move past the formalities check seems unusual.
My questions are:
1. Is it normal to be stuck at this specific stage for this long?
2. What actionable steps can I take to get this unstuck (e.g., CPGRAMS grievance, RTI)?
3. Should I revoke the POA from the current agency and hire an independent IP lawyer to push this forward, and if so, how complicated is that process?
Any guidance from IP lawyers or founders who have faced similar delays would be really appreciated!
