March 7, 2025 at 10:32 amMy father is suffering from brain cancer (stage 4) and he has couple of credit card debts in UAE. He is in India currently undergoing treatment and is completely unable to pay those debts. The banks have been emailing and calling us from UAE for the payments and one of them actually called from an Indian number. Is there any legal laws which can protect us from bankβs harassment at this time ? We donβt know what to do in this situation as we are not aware of his finances. Also, he has multiple cards amounting to around 180K AED. He was running a business and that took a dowfall since his surgery.

March 7, 2025 at 11:02 amIf you donβt plan on going back to UAE, then you can forget about the loan and ignore the bank. Legally there is nothing much they can do to you in India. But if you plan on returning then it is best to work out a solution with the bank. If you want to return in future, write an email to the bank and explain your situation to them. Ask them to restructure the loan and temporarily pause the repayment schedule.
