May 1, 2026 at 12:46 amMy family has been living on and maintaining a piece of land for many years. Although the land was never officially registered in my grandfatherβs name, he built houses there for his sons and our family has continued living there since then. We have been paying taxes, electricity bills, and maintaining the property for a long time. Our home and family business are also located on this land. One of my uncles never lived on the property, never contributed to taxes or maintenance, and stayed away for many years. Before my grandfather passed away, he reportedly told some family members that this uncle would not receive a share of this particular portion of land, as he would receive property elsewhere. Another uncle is willing to confirm this statement.
Recently, after a land measurement process was started, there was an informal family discussion where it was agreed that this uncle would receive around 2.5 kathas of land. However, before any official written partition was completed, he fenced off a much larger area than what was discussed, leading to serious disputes within the family.
At present, we are trying to understand our legal position and find a peaceful solution before the matter becomes more complicated.
I am looking for general legal guidance before consulting a lawyer. Because he been harassing us since that day.
