March 22, 2025 at 8:32 amI need some perspective on a troubling situation involving a family I know. Some background: This is a well-respected Brahmin family (a middle-aged man, his wife, son, and aged mother) who **don’t even live permanently in their society**. Due to the man’s job and his son’s studies, they only visit occasionally for festivals. They **have no political or personal stake in society matters**, yet they keep getting dragged into unnecessary conflicts—mainly because of a **jealous society secretary** who holds a grudge against them.
This Holi, the **secretary moved the Holika fire in front of their house without discussion**, even though it had always been placed further away. The family objected, and when no one else dared to interfere, the **man moved the fire himself**. The secretary **called the police**, but they ruled in the family’s favor and warned against **CCTV tampering**.
Later that day, while leaving for their farmhouse, the family saw the **secretary and his group inside the CCTV control room**, seemingly **deleting footage**. When the man confronted them, an argument escalated into a fight. The **son was assaulted, his phone broken**, and in a shocking moment, the **secretary’s wife attacked him—slapping him, breaking his glasses, and kneeing him in his private area**. The **father stepped in to protect his son**, and that’s when the **secretary’s wife also hit him, pulled the wife’s hair, and pushed her to the ground**.
Now, the **secretary’s group is twisting the narrative**, showing **only the part where the man fought back against the secretary’s wife**, completely ignoring how she **initiated the fight by assaulting his son**. They’ve **gotten media coverage, filed a case through Mahila Ayog, and are portraying the man as the only aggressor**.
So I need to ask:
* **If a woman attacks a man (or his son), is the man always at fault for defending himself?**
* **Shouldn’t the full footage be considered, not just selective clips?**
* **What should the family do now to get justice?**
