April 29, 2026 at 7:04 pmHi everyone, looking for legal advice on an academic dispute with BITS Pilani (Work Integrated Learning Programme). Here’s the full timeline:Background:
I am a WILP student at BITS Pilani. I have 2 backlog subjects (RC subjects) that are now being cited as the reason I cannot register for my dissertation.
The Problem : Zero Communication from Faculty:
Before the start of Semester 6, I reached out to my faculty coordinator via both official email and Microsoft Teams asking specifically about how to register for and clear my backlog subjects. I received zero response.
Semester 6 completed. No one from BITS flagged my backlog situation. No warning. No guidance. Nothing.
Before/at the beginning of Semester 7, I again reached out — this time to another faculty member — again via email and Microsoft Teams with the same query about backlog clearance. Again, complete silence. No response.
Semester 7 also completed. BITS allowed me to progress through all semesters without a single official communication about dissertation eligibility requirements or how to clear backlogs alongside regular courses.
Now the Problem:
After 4 years and 7 semesters of progression, BITS is now saying I cannot register for dissertation until my 2 backlogs are cleared.
But:
– They never told me HOW to clear them when I directly asked
– They never responded to my follow-up queries across TWO semesters
– They never flagged this during any semester progression
– Graduation proceedings for my batch have already started
I have documented proof of both follow-ups — email records and Microsoft Teams chat screenshots with timestamps — showing I asked and received no response.
My Questions:
– Do I have a valid legal case against BITS for administrative/academic negligence?
– Can I get a court stay on the ongoing graduation proceedings until my case is heard?
– Is this a valid Consumer Forum complaint (deficiency of service)?
– Which is faster — High Court writ petition or Consumer Forum?
– Any education lawyers in Hyderabad/Telangana who handle such cases?
I am based in Hyderabad.I want to know if I can file in Telangana High Court as well.
Any help or suggestions appreciated. This is extremely time-sensitive as graduation is being processed right now.
