March 2, 2025 at 12:19 pmHi,I’m from Telangana, and I previously worked as a software engineer for a company based in Pune, Maharashtra. It was a work-from-home job, and the company still owes me four months of salary, totaling approximately ₹1 lakh. I left the company in 2023, so it has now been almost two years since the dues have remained unpaid.
Despite multiple follow-ups, my former employer keeps giving excuses, claiming he is raising funds, selling property, etc., and assures me that he will pay once he has the money. However, this has been going on for a long time with no real progress.
When I recently informed him that I would take legal action, he repeated the same promise without any concrete timeline. I am currently working at a different company, but I don’t want to let this matter go unresolved.
What are my legal options to recover my pending salary? How much would it cost me to pursue this legally? I’d appreciate any guidance on the best course of action.
Thanks in advance!

March 2, 2025 at 12:38 pmYour erstwhile employer is simply delaying the matter. If you want to recover the amount take legal steps quickly as 2 years or more have already passed. Limitation period for monetary claims is 3 years after which you won’t be able to recover the unpaid salary. You will need to send him a legal notice and thereafter, if he fails to pay, you will need to file a summary suit. Confirm with your lawyer if you can file in your case in labour court, but I doubt it.
How much it will cost you entirely depends on the lawyer you hire. But you can also recover reasonable costs incurred by you in the court proceeding along with your outstanding salary with interest.

March 2, 2025 at 2:47 pmHave faced the same from a Pune based company.I filed a grievance with the PM Office and Central Government Grievance Portal. As salary issues pertain to the Labour Department.
My grievance was transferred to the Labour Commissioner Office, Pune.
Two days back I got my entire pending salary.
Note: This is obviously free of cost but it takes time. In my case it took 3 months to get addressed as it was transferred from the Central Government to the State Government.
