April 19, 2025 at 7:18 amI posted about this on this subreddit a few days ago — you can check my previous post from my profile for full context. After sending a legal notice through my lawyer, I recently received this reply:> **”As per our policy, a refund isn’t possible. However, on humanitarian grounds, we are willing to offer a refund of ₹20,000. If you agree to this amount, please share a cancelled cheque and your written consent.**
>
> **Alternatively, we can escalate your case to our legal team for further consideration, based on your preference.**
>
> **Please feel free to contact the undersigned for any clarification or assistance.”**Now I’m confused about what to do next.
– Should I **just accept the ₹20K offer**?
– Or is there a **realistic chance of getting more** without too much hassle?
– I’ve already spent **₹2.5K** on sending the legal notice.—
### **Questions:**
1. Are there any ways to **file a case online in consumer court** without involving a lawyer or paying fees?
2. If a lawyer is necessary, **how much would they typically charge** for such a case?
3. In an online case, is **everything handled digitally**, or would **someone need to be physically present** at any stage?
4. How much **time** does a typical consumer court case take?—
### **My Priorities:**
– **Mental peace and time** are my top concerns.
– I’m ready to accept **any reasonable amount with minimal hassle**.
– I’ll only go ahead with a case if the **probability of getting ₹70K–₹80K is 80–90%+**. Otherwise, it’s not worth it for me.Would appreciate any advice or shared experiences. Thanks in advance!

April 19, 2025 at 7:29 amAdvocate here,Don’t settle for the amount they’re offering. You can file a case with the Consumer Court it’s a straightforward process, and you don’t need a lawyer. The portal is called [e-jagriti](https://e-jagriti.gov.in/), and there are plenty of detailed videos online that guide you through the entire process

I don’t know about other portals but Ingram portal does work

April 19, 2025 at 7:41 am**Please answer these questions honestly:**1. Is there a reasonable chance (answer in % terms of probability please) I can get a decent compensation (please answer in amount, I’ve paid them 1.3 Lakhs) if I go through with a case—whether filed online or offline?
2. If I file a case through the **eDaakhil portal**, will I still have to be physically present in court on every hearing? I’ve read that if the other party doesn’t respond or attend the online hearing, or if the judge insists, physical presence may be required.
3. Filing offline through a lawyer seems costly. It only feels worth it if the chances of recovering **at least ₹80K** are **90% or higher**. Do you think that kind of outcome is realistic?
4. I feel like they offered me ₹20K just to avoid spending more on legal fees. Does that theory make sense to you? Or could there be another reason behind it?
5. Do you think I should try negotiating with them directly over a call and push for a higher refund—maybe **₹20K+**?

**For context:**
I’m 18 and just got my JEE results—did well and will get CSE in a tier-1 college. I genuinely love tech, I’m good at it, and I’m confident that I’ll earn much more in the future.
That said, these legal issues drain my energy. My dad will handle the formal process if we go ahead (especially if we choose the no-lawyer route), but I’ll still have to guide him, and honestly, I don’t want to be mentally stuck in this mess even for a few days.
I just want straight-up, no-BS advice—like an older brother would give. What’s the smartest move here?
