Some outsiders came to attend the fest and ragged juniors here. Juniors got furious and stone pelted our college seniors. To which we complained to the administration but they called the police on us. Police without any order lathi charged us and vandalised the hostels.
Emergency Statement: State-Sanctioned Brutality at MANIT, Bhopal
In a shocking and horrifying turn of events, the students of Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT), Bhopal have been subjected to unprecedented police brutality and administrative oppression. Over the last few hours, the following grave incidents have unfolded on our campus:
1. Police Brutality Without Cause
The police, acting under administrative orders, unleashed brutal force on students, mercilessly beating them without any provocation or wrongdoing. Students were assaulted indiscriminately, leaving many severely injured. (Photo evidence available in the next story)
2. Director Physically Assaults Student
In a shocking display of abuse of power, MANIT Director, Dr. K.K. Shukla, personally slapped a student four times, despite the student having committed no offense. This act of physical assault by the highest administrative authority of our institution is beyond reprehensible.
3. Forceful Lockdown of Students Using Lathi Charge
The administration, led by the director, locked students inside their hostels by ordering a violent lathi charge. Students were trapped, helpless, and terrified, unable to leave their rooms due to the constant threat of police aggression
4. Police Raided Hostels and Assaulted Students
Under direct administrative supervision, police stormed student hostels, dragged students out of their rooms, and brutally assaulted them. Innocent students, who were merely inside their living spaces, were beaten without mercy.
5. Destruction of Studerit Property
The police, with full knowledge and presence of the administration, vandalized hostel facilities, damaging property that belongs to students. This was not just an attack on individuals but an attack on our right to a safe learning environment.
6. Severe Injuries and Emergency Hospitalization
At least ten students were beaten so severely that they had to be rushed to a government hospital for emergency medical treatment. Their condition remains critical due to the excessive and unwarranted police violence
7. Targeted Arrest and Assault on Student Representatives
The Vice President of the MANIT Student Council was forcefully arrested and brutally beaten by the police, despite having committed no crime. This is a direct attack on student representation and democracy within the institution.
8. Campus Turned Into a Prison-Food & Movement Restricted
A de facto curfew has been imposed within the MANIT campus. Students are trapped in their hostels, deprived of food, and living in fear. Anyone attempting to step out is being beaten by the police. The administration has turned our educational institution into a militarized zone, stripping students of their basic rights and dignity.
MANIT Students Are Under Siege – We Demand Justicel
The students of MANIT are no longer safe in their own institution. We are being attacked, brutalized, and suppressed by the very authorities meant to protect us
We demand
Immediate action against the police officers responsible for this brutality.
The resignation of Director Dr. K.K. Shukla for his direct involvement in student assault.
Unrestricted access to food, movement, and basic human rights on campus.
A fair and transparent investigation into the events, with accountability for those responsible.
This is not just a student issue-this is a human rights crisis. If this can happen in one of India’s top institutions, it can happen anywhere. We refuse to be silent. We demand justice
