May 2, 2026 at 6:12 amHi, Iβm a 24-year-old working professional based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India, financially independent until recently.A few months ago, I got into a relationship with someone who later turned out to have misrepresented his background and finances. I ended up transferring a significant amount of money to him over time. We got married, but during a police inquiry (triggered after I left my parental home), it came to light that he had allegedly deceived multiple people in a similar manner.
I have since:
* Filed for annulment of the marriage
* Filed a police complaint against himCurrently, I am back at my parentsβ home, and the situation is very restrictive:
* I am not being allowed to leave the house independently
* I am being prevented from going to work
* My access to my own finances is being controlled
* I am under constant monitoring and do not have personal spaceI am an adult and want to live independently and resume my job, but Iβm concerned about:
* Possible false complaints being filed against me if I leave
* Whether the police will support my right to move out**My questions:**
1. What legal rights do I have as an adult to leave my parental home?
2. What steps can I take to ensure I can move out safely without interference?
3. How can I secure access to my own finances and documents?
4. Should I approach a lawyer or the police first, and under what grounds?Any guidance on the safest and most practical legal course of action would be very helpful.
*Note: I have omitted certain sensitive details for brevity and to keep the post appropriate for this subreddit, but I can provide more context if required.*
