February 25, 2025 at 1:42 pmI’m really scared right now and need some legal advice. Yesterday, I got a ₹12,000 fine from the Kerala MVD for driving without a license. The police took a photo but didn’t ask for any ID proof. There were three of us on the bike (triple riding), and the driver was only 17 years old. The fine has already been generated online, and I don’t know how to handle this. The biggest problem is that I don’t want my parents to find out. I’m really stressed and panicking— is there any way to reduce the fine or challenge it? Since they didn’t take any ID proof, does that give me any legal advantage? Please help, I have no idea what to do, and I’m really worried. Any advice would mean a lot. -

February 25, 2025 at 2:06 pmSince they didn’t take your ID. Most probably a summons would be sent to the owner of the vehicle, and an explanation would be asked of them.As much as I know it is best coming clean to your parents so they will not learn about this as a suprise at court.

February 25, 2025 at 2:10 pmTake the L and learn from your mistakes. You guys are not even majors and triple riding? I’d assume none of you wore helmets either. Risk for yourself and other commuters on the road.Whose vehicle were you guys riding?

OP
February 25, 2025 at 4:49 pmget your point, and I know we made a mistake. It happened on a village road where triple riding is pretty common, so we didn’t think much about it at the time. I definitely regret it now. The reason I asked is that I’ve seen many people getting their fines reduced, and I don’t understand how they do it. I’m guessing it’s because of political influence or connections. I just wanted to know if there’s any legal way to reduce it since I’ve seen others manage to do so.”-

February 25, 2025 at 5:09 pmYou can’t reduce the fine once the challan has been issued. At least the common people can’t.
