Vehicle ownership transfer by Succession

I need to transfer the ownership of a two wheeler (Our Activa) via Succession from my dad’s name to mine after his demise. Is a legal heir/succession certificate necessary in this case? Can this be done without those certificates? Instead using like an affidavit maybe?

From what I see these certificates cost a lot (15-20k) and I don’t have anything else apart from this vehicle that might require a use of a legal heir/succession certificate.

I’m in Maharashtra and there are no debts/taxes pertaining to this vehicle currently.

Can someone please help and guide with the process?
