May 5, 2025 at 10:47 amA vet from a popular home service in Bengaluru prescribed (meloxicam) tablets twice a day for two days for my dog. This caused severe internal bleeding, vomiting, dehydration, and intense stress — both for my dog and for me. I’ve spent a lot emotionally and financially trying to stabilize him. This dosage is clearly an overdose. I later noticed that the prescription slip has the printed disclaimer:
“Prescription not for veterolegal purposes.”
That makes me feel like they were trying to protect themselves from the start.I’m planning to take the case to Consumer Court and file for compensation. Has anyone here been through something similar in Bengaluru?
How did you go about claiming compensation?
Did the vet or company offer any resolution?
If I go to consumer court, will it involve too much running around or legal stress?
I would really appreciate any advice, stories, or guidance. Thank you.

May 5, 2025 at 11:22 amHi. I am a Delhi based lawyer. You must first approach the vet claiming compensation for deficiency in service from his end. If it doesn’t get resolved there, file a consumer complaint before the District Commission. However, you need to have proper evidence that medical negligence has occurred at the hands of the vet and how you have arrived at that conclusion. It won’t be as much running around if you engage a lawyer, however, if you choose to appear yourself, then ofcourse it takes more of a toll. Better to engage a lawyer for a matter of this nature.
