What Was Alleged Before the Amendment?

The government and activists claimed Waqf Boards were being misused:

        1. Encroachment on Public Land
Waqf Boards often declared parks, govt buildings, and railway land as “Waqf by user” — just because namaz was held or a grave existed there.
        → No documents. Just usage.
→ Result: Massive land claims without proof.

        2. Corruption and Mismanagement
Allegations of illegal sales, shady leases, political appointments, and no transparency.
        → No audits. No accountability.

        3. No Right to Appeal
Citizens or government departments couldn’t easily challenge Waqf claims.
→ Waqf Tribunals had more power than civil courts.

        What the 2025 Amendment Changed:

        1. End of “Waqf by User”
Land use alone is no longer valid. Ownership proof is mandatory.

        2. Collector Will Verify Claims
Only land with valid title deeds can be considered Waqf. District Collectors will survey and verify.

        3. Non-Muslims Can Now Join Waqf Boards
To increase transparency and ensure balanced decision-making.

        4. Citizens Can Now Object
Any individual — not just Waqf bodies — can now raise objections to Waqf claims.

Why Some in the Muslim Community Are Upset:

Waqf land is often tied to mosques, madrasas, graveyards, and charity. For many, it’s sacred.

        The new law feels like:
        • Govt interference in religious affairs
        • An attack on religious freedom
        • Risk of losing heritage and centuries-old sites

Courts still remain a way to seek justice — but fear and resentment exist.

Is This Democratic Reform or Targeted Law?

        Pros:
        • Stops illegal land claims
        • Brings transparency and accountability
        • Applies equal rules to all religious trusts

        Cons:

        •Seen by some as anti-Muslim
        • May impact sentiments and freedoms
        • Fear of excessive state control over religion

        Final Thought:

This law has potential to bring fairness — if applied with sensitivity.
Otherwise, it may deepen mistrust among a community already feeling targeted.

Let’s keep justice and harmony at the heart of policy.

          1. Can u allow a muslim member on a temple board?

          2. Blatant misuse of power is already done by IAS IPS to make the local govt happy.

          3. Who is biggest encroacher of waqf property? The govt and politicians.

          4. “Some” in muslim community are upset? Have u met a single person in-favor of the bill?

          5. Exaggerated nareative that offering namaz led to waqf property. Waqf properties, like u also acknowledged, are centuries old, how will u find documents for all of them?

          6. Courts will come into the picture later, this bill will create unrest everywhere with harrasment case on all the waqf properties. Tajmahal, Mecca, Ajmer, among many other are already claimed to be built on temples.

Sharing some of the rough notes coming into my mind rn. Ignore typo and language pls.

          good night.

Your neighbour here. I am sorry but this seems like the biggest hit of pure copium, similar to what we have here with regards to Nawaz Sharif League and their antics. Their supporters will find some convoluted way to justify the most blatant abuse of rights. They will have their own necks stepped on and be smiling.

Modi has run a campaign with Hindutva at the forefront, with this latest act, it will do nothing other than antagonize Muslims further who already, at least systematically feel unwelcome in the country.

Our countries separated 78 years ago, and yet the similarities in terms of corrupt officials and the type of polictics that happen is so similar. Politicians in both countries just want to keep the people occupied one way or another, enrage them, publicize non-issues to waste time, and keep the people fighting among each other by creating a divide or maintaining it. In your country, its muslim vs hindu, in mine, its punjab vs sindh, or pml-n vs pti. Its the same shit show, just keep them occupied, so they dont question what we are doing to the country.
