What are the repurcussions of getting your name in a case against an organisation/institution you are working in ?

I am working as an Assistant Professor in a university owned college. Now the university has decided to make a fresh recruitment which makes the futuree of existing employees uncertain. As a result the union of professors decided to file a case and get a stay on the recruitment process. Now some people dont want their name to be listed in the case ( but they will pay for the case ). I want to know why exactly some dont want their name to be listed in the case but some have no problem.
