https://www.maitreyi.ac.in/uploads/research/Samvedna/issues/vol6/issue2/Eng/E3.pdf) which talks about false rape cases filed in India.
The earliest report it cites (2016) contains this
>Disposal of Cases by Police and Court
But report 2015 says
>2,624 cases of rape were such cases in which final report were submitted by police declaring the cases as false.
I did not know that police can do that.
2017 onwards NCRB has stopped explaining the meaning of this.
So I am not sure what is the meaning of “Final report false”…
trial happened for these numbers or not? That is my main question.
Moreover, if case X is dismissed as false by court and the victim appeals in higher court. The higher court convicts the accused or remarks that the case is True but not enough evidence. Then this case X would be counted in “Final report false” cases or not?
