January 24, 2025 at 6:14 pmHi all,It’s a hypothetical situation. What should be done if the police (traffic, civil etc) wrongly starts hitting us to show his dominance.
What can we tell him to back off apart from recording?
I wanted to know what laws can we tell him whic makes him back off and maybe scare him a bit?

January 24, 2025 at 6:23 pmNAL; You may retaliate in self defence IF and only if you think your life is in mortal danger ( ie you think officer is going to kill you)Also, this is as per old Act. Idk new Act provisions.

January 24, 2025 at 6:52 pmBrother/sister the word of the law and its practise is wildly different.
I have a friend still in jail after 4 months for beating a cop after a cop broke his index finger at a traffic stop.-

January 25, 2025 at 4:33 amSo you’re saying if I can and start beating you and break your finger in the process – you are not being attacked or not sure if this is threat to life and tus can’t defend yourself?-

January 31, 2025 at 9:18 pmThere is a difference between fighting back and beating. When the threat of harm is removed, you aren’t in danger anymore, and thus aren’t covered under Self Defense. If you are beating me and breaking my finger, i can shove, punch, slap you all i want UNTILL you stop trying to harm me. In that time, i should also be looking for ways to get away from you.

January 24, 2025 at 6:38 pmYou don’t argue with the police in the first instance. You take the ticket and move along. Nowadays I see so many people arguing unnecessarily.
Never has Police officer even touched me or said bad words, I’ve always been calm and polite with them.

January 24, 2025 at 6:50 pmThat’s a good advice… But for some reason if police is trying to scare or bully an uneducated, or weaker person or misuse power to make them do something… How should we protect ourself… Like they might force to get in police car to take to station without proper channel,
Or let’s say a fake cop trying to fine people or something… How do can we know if he is real police.
By the way the above mentioned scenario actually happened in our country.-

January 24, 2025 at 6:54 pmYou can create many “what if” scenarios doesn’t mean it’ll happen to you. Everything is case by case basis.I don’t deal with hypotheticals because then anything is possible.
If police is forcing you to get in the vehicle, you get in the vehicle. You think if you resist, they won’t take you away? They will take you away and put additional charge of resisting arrest.
Fake cop, I mean come on, I don’t know what region you are living in but I think it’s time to move.

January 24, 2025 at 7:02 pmI think you are not aware of things happened in India, where people created fake companies promising jobs, fake traffic police who fine travelers, fake bank branches, fake courts and lawyer… This is India anything can happen…
Anyway… My “what if” questions are not some fantasy scenarios… But genuine doubts… Sorry time has wasted.-

January 24, 2025 at 7:05 pmYour genuine doubt is about what can you tell to these fake people??Just stay away, you are not police or judiciary to tackle imposters. If you identify someone is fake, then call the real police.
Don’t fall for scams, do your due diligence, research before investing money. You cannot control who is fake, but you can recognize and report.

January 24, 2025 at 6:48 pmThe bottom line is that you need to respect the law of the land.
If a traffic cop stops you – you stop.
If he’s asking for papers you show those papers or politely inform that you don’t have them (if that’s the case)A cop can fuck your life up in such beautiful ways that you can’t imagine.
You can file complaints with his police station, to the district superintendent of police and also file a case in court – in all these cases you will have to face content harassment and spend shit tons of money and will likely not see a satisfying resolution.
Source – I accidentally left the brake at a redlight and the car rolled into the car in front which was of a judge. There was an attempt to murder fir against me and I had to spend about 8 lakhs (in lawyer fee and bribes to cops) and spend 2 days at a police lockup to save my ass in which case the cops were supportive. The judge was an absolute dick because when I got out of the car to apologise he abused me and without thinking much I abused him back.

January 25, 2025 at 4:46 amJudges go unnoticed like you end up interacting with your local IAS officer or MLA a lot more than your local DJ, same with HC judges.
It however depends, I have met some of the most humble individuals who are judges, especially HC or SC, lower court judges are generally all alike sadly-

January 25, 2025 at 11:11 amLike I said, I got distracted/confused and didn’t move the gear to neutral and left the brake in my automatic car, and the car rolled at a snails pace into the car in front of me and I immediately reversed a little and got off the car to Apologise and I did say sorry and thankfully neither cars had any damage only a few small scratches. But the older gentleman sitting in the back seat of the car started abusing me and I did not think too much of it and abused him back. Gaaliyan toh mujhe bi saari aati hai and then both of us just got back into our cars and left and went on with our lives.
I’ve had 2-3 complaints filed by me at my police station (my police station as in the one closest to my residence in my district) previously so I knew the reader at the thana.
He called me the next day asking me why was I trying to murder a judge and I didn’t get his question and then he explained that an attempt to murder charge as been given as a complaint and I will have to immediately report to the police station or else they will have to send s PCR to pick me up and that I can’t fly.I called a lawyer friend who works with a senior advocate in delhi who came with me to the police station immediately.
I was essentially asked to be within the police station till the SI does his investigation. I was honest and told the cops about my side of the story, the judge apparently told the same cops that I banged into his car to distract him and get him out of the car and then I started abusing him and threatening him and I pushed him but his driver “saved his life” and they ran away scared shitless. And that the judge had the presence of mind to note my vehicle number. I wasn’t bound or put in cuffs but was expected to be within the police station compound. I was given a bedding and was allowed home cooked meals and allowed my parents to get me bedsheets and a cover to sleep in at night.
I was presented to a magistrate on the third day after 2 nights who granted me bail and told me to not fuck with the wrong person but was generally affable and polite.

January 24, 2025 at 11:24 pmYou are out of luck.It isn’t easy to make him back off. Police officers fear media persons, senior police officers and bureaucrats, ministers, lawyers, and judges. Other than them, they don’t give a fuck. Some of those beat-up lawyers, but most don’t.
The best strategy is not to be in a situation where they hit you. If they stop you during a protest or police check, do what they say. The lawyers can protect you, sometimes a small bribe puts a smile on them.
