April 30, 2026 at 11:34 amHi everyone,Iโm currently working in Hyderabad but my permanent address is in Karnataka. Iโve been living in Hyderabad for about 1 year and 8 months in a PG.
I applied for a passport at the PSK in Raidurg, Hyderabad. In my application, I provided my Karnataka address as both my present and permanent address because:
Iโm okay going back home for police verification
Iโm not sure how long Iโll stay in Hyderabad (I might relocate anytime)
My permanent address will always remain in Karnataka
However, at the PSK (Counter C), the officer put my application on hold and said:
My present address should be Hyderabad
I need proof of address in Hyderabad
They asked for:
HR letter from my company
Electricity bill with my name (which is difficult since I stay in a PG)
Bank account with Hyderabad address
But Iโm facing issues:
My company is private limited (website mentions public limited companies for HR letter validity)
SBI and Axis Bank told me they cannot open/change address to PG address
I donโt have electricity bill in my name (PG stay)
I can only get a rent receipt
My questions:
1. Why canโt I apply using my Karnataka address as both my present and permanent address?
2. What should I do in this situation?
3. Is changing my address worth the trouble, considering that all my documents already have my Karnataka address? I am not willing to change it at any cost.
4. Is the address on a passport considered a strong proof of address everywhere? Will having different addresses on my passport and other documents like Aadhaar, PAN, and mark sheets cause any issues?
Would really appreciate guidance from anyone who has faced a similar situation.
