February 21, 2025 at 8:57 amI’m caught in the dreaded 90-day notice period at Accenture (India) and I’ve cooked up a two-step strategy to try and break free early. I’m curious if anyone’s been there, done that, or thinks I’m just dreaming.Step 1: The Medical Excuse Gambit
I plan to visit a doctor and get a certificate citing stress-induced insomnia and anxiety. You know, the usual symptoms—racing thoughts, sleepless nights, constant fatigue, maybe even a few dizzy spells. The idea is to have a legit note that recommends immediate rest (and by extension, early release from the notice period). It’s a subjective diagnosis, so hopefully, it’s hard to argue with.
Step 2: The Labour Law Drop
If HR resists my early exit request, I’ll gently remind them that Indian labour laws require notice periods to be “reasonable” and not create undue hardship. I’m not going full threat mode, just casually mentioning that I might have to consult the Labour Commissioner if things get too sticky. The hope is that this little legal nudge will push them to approve an early release rather than risk a bureaucratic headache.
My Burning Questions:
1. Has anyone successfully shortened their notice period using a medical excuse at an Indian IT firm?
2. Do HR folks actually verify a doctor’s note, or is it more of a “trust us” scenario?
3. Does a subtle mention of the Labour Commissioner work as a scare tactic, or is it just empty talk?
4. Any other creative, legal loopholes that helped you escape the notice period grind?Drop your experiences, advice, or even cautionary tales in the comments—I’m eager to hear if this strategy is a genius escape plan or just another wild idea doomed to fail. Thanks in advance!
P.S. This is purely a brainstorming session—I’m not a lawyer, but I’m all ears for any feedback from those in the know!

February 21, 2025 at 9:02 amHR in a big company like Accenture has seen these strategies and much more. They won’t budge for these. You need to come up with a more creative approach -

February 21, 2025 at 9:32 amI mean isn’t the point of law to help out people and make sure they don’t suffer under gruesome work conditions? I am just spitballing here even I don’t know if this would work or not-

February 21, 2025 at 9:37 amAs per my limited knowledge in this field, there is no legal specification to declare any specific period of notice period as unlawful. so 3 months notice period is not illegal or unlawful.-

February 21, 2025 at 9:39 amBut it is in bad faith isn’t it. No company would touch an employee if they can’t join them within a month or 2 months at max. 3 months is just excessive-

February 21, 2025 at 9:49 amIn my experience, Some companies don’t touch candidates with 3 months of notice, Some Companies wait if they want you.If you pass your interviews with very good feedback, good companies will wait.

February 21, 2025 at 9:46 amMedical thing worked for my colleague, he put the paper in December mentioning he is having severe mental issues and submitted some fake docs to hr( which I didn’t those were not legit docs at that time) and want to be released early( 1month).He got an early release after 30-35 days( actual notice period 90 days) and in Jan he put a status of joining a new company in snapchat.

February 21, 2025 at 10:04 amOP, How about buyout ??
You mention the company’s policy and ask for it. Why not this option?PS : I am in Accenture too.

February 21, 2025 at 10:07 amTheoretically I am gonna go for a mix of buyout and this excuse. I went though my employment contract and it says that the final decision rests on accenture. This is just something I am planning on adding on and then I would introduce the fact that I am willing to buy out my remaining notice and settle the rest with my remaining leaves-

February 21, 2025 at 10:10 amI had same thought. imo, mix of both will not work.My strategy is to buyout 50% notice period (I will pay) and make sure to mention policy of buyout over email.
If Manager disapproves it I will be looping Accenture Legal team.I bet, most of such HR/Managers don’t wanna deal with them.
I wish you well.

February 21, 2025 at 11:27 amYou can try paying them off to leave you early. We have the option to pay and reduce the notice period to 60. Usually this amount is paid by the next company which wants us to join-

February 21, 2025 at 2:05 pmNeither of the excuses will fly. For the medical case they will actually recommend that you stay and serve full notice so that you get the benefit of the medical insurance.Excuses may also backfire – as they may share not positive feedback when contacted for background checks.
One that may work is a your joining letter for a govt job or the armed forces.

February 21, 2025 at 2:38 pmWont work – as in order to process a quick exit and get the approvals – you will be asked to submit a copy of the document. Plenty of people with fauji connections will be sitting in HR – so fake letters can be career limiting,If you really want to exit talk to your manager to check for a quick exit or offer to buy out your notice.
