March 10, 2025 at 11:19 pmIt’s gonna be a long one mate,
My team and I participated in the biggest mobile esports tournament held in our country, aka Battlegrounds Mobile India Series 2025 (BGIS).
We played and qualified various preliminary rounds from in game qualifiers , round 1, round 2 , and then in round 3 we also qualified, however today when the results were announced they just disqualified us for a reason that doesn’t even make sense .
After every round each player of each team is required to submit both their , in game point of view(pov) , and Handcam pov.
We played our round 3 matches and came 2nd overall out of 16 teams where top 6 was supposed to qualify.
After the match an admin texted us telling us to submit both ,in game pov and Handcam pov before 7pm. We all submitted everything before the deadline at around 5-5:30pm.
Today in the disqualification message they told us that the reason for disqualification was the breach of rule 4.3 which states the following –
“NOTICE: ALL PARTICIPANTS/PLAYERS ARE REQUIRED TO RECORD BOTH THEIR IN-GAME POINT-OF-VIEW (POV) AND HANDCAM POV FOR EVERY MATCH OF THE BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA SERIES 2025. FAILURE TO RECORD AND SUBMIT THE REQUIRED POVS) WILL RESULT IN PENALTIES OR CAN EVEN RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION.”
Everyone submitted everything and yet they disqualified us and when we asked the admins about it they aren’t responding or clarifying the matter to us and they later blocked us without even giving an explanation. It feels like all our years of time energy effort and money went down the drain . I wanna sue them but the problem is the parent company Krafton (company which owns the game) its jurisdiction is based in the Republic of South Korea.
However the management of the official tournaments (tournaments held by krafton) are outsourced to a third party company called “Tesseract Esports” .
I could go on and on cuz there is so much backstory to this and I’m honestly so tired of typing all this so ,
What can I even do?
Can I sue them ? -

March 11, 2025 at 12:08 amNAL, You will need to get in touch with a lawyer who deals with these matters but I assume you’ve paid to enter the tournament? If you’ve paid for a service (participation in the tournament), you qualify as a consumer. If the organizers arbitrarily disqualified you, it could be considered “deficiency of service” or “unfair trade practice” under the Consumer Protection Act. You can file a complaint with the appropriate consumer forum.
If there were clear terms and conditions stating fair participation, and the organizers violated them, it could amount to a breach of contract. If you suffered financial loss or damages, you could sue for compensation. There are many acts under which this can fall, contracts act, 420 IPC, IT Act for cyber fraud , consumer protection act etc but speaking to an actual lawyer will help you understand if this is even worth the cost. -

March 11, 2025 at 12:16 amIf they’re under Indian jurisdictions, I’d prefer to rather take some legal action instead of creating a social media ruckus which will cause nuisance for some time and then people just forget / don’t bother with it. These are affecting people in thousands(if not lakhs).-

March 11, 2025 at 12:43 amu/Intrepid_Split1940 I think its a very common misconception amongst folks who surround themselves with social media influencer type of content. In real world, and real world issues and crimes, social media acts as a tool to create pressure for the other party to take the right decision. Your hamertia lies in the fact that you think a crime committed equals to some sort of social media drama like a soap opera. And in fact if someone tries to muzzle you there, then you should know how to proceed. First you need to make your *evidence* public.-

OP
March 11, 2025 at 12:48 amI do have the evidence which is why I’m considering taking legal action , if I didn’t have it I know it would be just be “hearsay” / our word against theirs so yeah I do have the evidence but what good is making it public gonna do when the only authority capable of making a verdict is the court ?-

March 11, 2025 at 1:22 amStep one, make your evidence public. You mentioned that there are others besides you right? That should gather public support. Its very important to expose a crime like unfair trade practices on public platform which by its its nature extends to consumer protection laws. I am sure you know the example of Ola recently or any service provider they get to respond on social media. If they’re not personally responding to mails then its an obvious indication, you alone, in tête-à-tête, wouldn’t do jack shit. Second step, is going to the court and ensuring that you’re pockets run deep. And that you have obviously have the means to against a big corporation in court and that too without public support. Do you have the bucks to hire an A grade lawyer? Cool. But the other party will hire an even better lawyer and have inroads in the court simply by the merit of them being a big corp. If you get a good lawyer they’ll advice you the same, but it won’t be for free. 🙂-

March 11, 2025 at 2:50 amIn your case you should definitely reveal to general public, and then go to court. You sound like someone who has convinced themselves that court is the only way to go. After all your personal stakes matter the most. Best of luck mate. Keep us updated-

March 11, 2025 at 4:01 amGet a copy of those rules the organisers have cited. It should probably contain a provision for appeals and dispute.-

March 11, 2025 at 7:18 amOnly thing I could find in the rule book which is even closely related to “provision for appeals and disputes” is a section called “limitation of liability” would that be it.-

March 11, 2025 at 8:29 amLook for any provisions which enables you to challenge the decision of the organiser. Else, approach the regulating body of e-sports.-

March 11, 2025 at 8:40 amThe only problem is there is no regulating or governing body when it comes to esports.

March 11, 2025 at 7:13 amBeing a competitive bgmi player if yk yk, however if you’re thinking that we got banned due to hacking etc, no we didn’t get banned or used hacks for that matter , we got unfairly disqualified for breaching a rule which makes no sense .-

March 11, 2025 at 7:18 amHandcam POV and screen recordings were implemented to curb cheaters. So if your handcam POV isn’t clear, or you use 3rd party screen recorder etc you will be banned. And you haven’t answered why you were active in the jailbreak sub. Jailbroken iphones are used to cheat in eSports… So unless you had something to hide, your screen recordings should be up to the mark right.
