Might be a pain to re-instate it but seems like a smaller pain in comparison.

There isn’t any difference in the process for verification between tatkal and normal application.
My understanding is that you need to be staying at the location provided as your correspondence address. I had some hiccups in verification and got it cleared with some palm greasing.

Correct me if I’m wrong but passport delivery is independent of police verification now.

Got mine done last year. Police verification happened later. Was informed that I will face an issue travelling internationally only if police verification comes up with a negative review.

Other than that, once your form goes to police, they have a TAT to process your documents and it is all system driven. They cannot hold back your application for too long.
