      I m a muslim. seen numerous marriages of my relatives. Also both of my sisters are married. They have to get their marriage registered.
      Yes, Nikah Namah suffices as the proof of the marriage most of the time but in order to do any changes on documents such as husband name, Change in surname after marriage, Applying for spouse visa if u are living in another country etc. u do need marriage registration certificate along with Nikah Namah.

        Yes there is one Nikah Namah that needs to be signed during the marriage but still there is a need of registering ur marriage where is Nikah Namah is used as a proof of marriage.
        If you don’t register ur marriage then it becomes quite difficult to get the name change done on government documents, passport etc.

        So is it mandatory, No it’s not. But is it needed, Yes it is.

          still registration of marriage is mandatory.

            Indian law supersedes Muslim personal Law. So if a person has gotten divorced or is not able to get divorce under Muslim personal law then he/she has full right to go to courts.

            Also as per Islam the law of the country in which u are living shall always supersede the muslim personal law or religious rulings in terms of divorce.
