I was actually hoping filing an FIR would be an option, but looks like it’s not the right route since it’s a civil matter. As for the legal notice—do I need to go through a lawyer for that, or is it something I can draft and send myself?

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually gave them a very clear deadline and even warned them that I’d file an FIR if they didn’t return the money. It’s been about a year now, and they still haven’t paid me back. Given how long it’s been and the fact that they ignored the ultimatum, do you still think sending a legal notice would help? Or should I just go ahead with filing the FIR at this point?

I don’t have a formal written agreement, but I do have a copy of the transaction (like bank transfer details) and chat messages where the person clearly acknowledges receiving the money and even discusses repayment.
