SI would say what you did was right and you were smart to not act. My advice here is, if there is any CCTV camera nearby, then there must be a recording of cop accepting bribe from you. Use it as a tool of revenge and file a case against the cop.SNAL = not a lawyer..

SNAL: but since you have said they are from different community and habitual offenders i would suggest you to stay away from them as much as you can.
If you record a statement and complaint in police station, it won’t have serious impact on them since one of the guy is already under observation by police authorities. This means, they don’t fear system and when it comes to beating you, it appears that they did it for fun.
So the best is, either keep shut or just approach someone who is more powerful than police forces ( like MLA ).SSounds like a superhero movie. Charity starts from home then. Start with your relatives/friends who are government officers and are corrupt..if you can do something about that, then definitely you definitely have all power to stand and fight against the system without breaking down.
