In one incident, three accused (in a theft-cum-murder case) were stripped naked, forced into half-squat positions with arms outstretched, and beaten with a wide belt-like strap made of the same material as police belts. The officer had even nicknamed it “Billo Rani.” They also used trans persons (one of them was also named Rani, present in the thana) to further humiliate the accused by making them slap or beat the detainees.
The second time was during a theft case at my own factory. Six suspects were picked up. They were beaten with the same strap—on their palms and soles, and then made to rub their hands and jump on their feet to avoid visible marks.
What you read as “kadai se puchhtach” in the news is often this in reality.
