I don’t know what the law is in this regard, but please try seeking out pro-bono lawyers where you are. Most big Indian cities have some lawyers who do some pro-bono work, and maybe in other locations will have, too.

            I understand… πŸ™πŸΎ

Your employer hasn’t been using the law to get justice. They are misusing the law to harass you. So as long as you feel, peaceful, secure and confident you are anyway one step ahead of them. Some part of this peace is internal to us, but in my experience having this type of support helpsβ€” and especially so because you haven’t done anything wrong.

As far as lawyers are concerned, they are expected to preserve confidentiality for any client. And people working on women’s issues usually are more sensitive… It takes a bit of time to find suitable help, but I feel it’s worth it.

OP, contact a woman’s support NGO. They will not only accord you legal help but also possibly some therapeutic help/counselling/support. They can find you pro bono lawyers as well.

NAL, word of advise (based on direct but limited personal experience):
                1. Get ALL your papers in one place, including but not limited to title deed/sale deed, encumbrance certificate, link documents, registration documents, site plan, mutation certificate/s, power of attorney document/s of any were used in any of the sequence of sales, wills of previous owners of applicable, and documents of previous claimants forsaking claim and/or giving any no objection certificate, grandfather’s will, etc. and read them all very carefully + Make notes.
                2. Read up on Indian laws regarding property and property disputes, and inheritance.
                3. Consult multiple lawyers to consider different points of view and sound each viewpoint out with other lawyers + Make notes.
                4. Get in touch with multiple women’s NGOs to understand what kind of support options you have. Both related to property and for your overall well-being + Make notes.
                5. Visit the site, get a resurvey done, and put up border markings and ownership boards (with an influential lawyer’s support on it ideally). This step will cost some money.
                6. To avoid paying a large chunk of the money in tax, consider reinvestment in certain GoI bonds where you don’t have to pay tax if you buy them with money made from property sale; you can also put the money in other property, but again property purchases need a lot of time and effort to vet properly not just legally but also for other factors like local water levels, logistics, future prospects, etc.

Even then, registration typically happens in full payment of the money, not while applying for a loan.

Never heard of such a thing. If they say it is for KYC etc, go with the buyer to the bank and get it done by the manager. I don’t know if you have signed the sale agreement yet, but I hope you have put in clear exit clauses.

Please contact a trusted lawyer, ideally someone recommended by dependable family or friends. This type of a problem can get aggravated if handled badly. If handled well this will just be a civil case that gets resolved in a shorter span of time. If you try strong arming this and someone or all of them together for a case, it might turn into a criminal case against you and go sideways. So please step carefully after weighing options at each step, and collect as much evidence in your favour as you can.

This isn’t a good idea because OP might end up doxxing themselves, and also Google might detect brigading and remove all the flagged negative reviews.
