January 20, 2025 at 5:38 pmPractising advocate here:Ask your neighbour to file a 498A complaint againt her husband. Furthermore, if the second marriage is registered, file a case of bigamy against him as well.
I don’t think his threat of legal action against her children carries any water. People love making tall threats that cannot be followed up.
As far as the property is concerned, make a will ASAP.
I am very sorry that your neighbour is going through this, but there are remidies available.

January 20, 2025 at 4:33 pmAny and all death penalty sentences given by a Sessions Court need to be confirmed by a division bench of the HC, which they won’t do because this case doesn’t fall under the rarest of rare category. Her punishment will be commuted to a life sentence.

January 13, 2025 at 10:04 amLike I said, if she decides not to pay, no one will care. Itโs just 2000.If a lawyer is charging that then itโs pocket change for him.
But take this as a lesson. Lawyers donโt work for free unless it is specifically decided for your case.

January 13, 2025 at 9:56 amMost lawyers charge money for consults. Our time isn’t for free. I don’t understand why people would think that we just dole out advice to whoever trundles over to us with an issue. Except when I am on reddit, I never give free consults. So, unless specifically decided earlier, consultations cost money. Your friend should pay ideally. Not paying wouldn’t be an issue either cause no lawyer has the time to go around chasing people for a mere 2000.
