      1st thing : Take printouts of all appreciation mails from before your NP and good ratings if you have any. Build the picture that you are a good employee who loves this company and might even come back to work here at a senior position few years down the line. (This gives HR the message of not burning bridges with you).

      Then take out the data of your NP performance showing you have performed well and say that whatever conversation is happening should be data driven and mature discussion.

      Refer your leave policy and read it letter by letter to see if sick leaves are given in your company during NP. If not then go down the path of asking them to cut your 3 days salary instead of extending your NP ( they usually dont do that but atleast it will put the HR in a dilemma on what to do)

      Also remember, the HR might be from different team but for the HR you are now an outsider and your manager is still a part of the company so don’t consider HR to be on your side. Also don’t get emotional but be data driven and base your talk on policies, rules, employee well being and image of the company.
