My family litigated a case in Delhi – mostly in the High Court – for 33 years. What I can unreservedly tell everyone is that there is no justice for the common man in this country. Do everything you can to not end up in the spiral of a legal proceeding. But if you do end up on the death spiral of the Indian judiciary, you will have to be your own advocate. Our case came to an end only because we started speaking up in court ourselves. The lawyers we hired to represent us never completely pleaded for all the reliefs we sought. We had to do that ourselves, and in the final lap, we stopped taking lawyers with us altogether. After 33 years, even the judges could not look away from our plight.
