UIf you are not in a hurry to get another job, stay silent. do not pay. let them do their thing. After when you are looking for job, you can for letters and pay if needed. most likely they will relieve you.

UCan’t help. But check if that person is lying or he might have invested somewhere.ask to show the proof of money lost in gambling.

2 year of probation itself seems very wrong. But we are all at the mercy of employer. Nothing can be done. Instead of worrying about lost job, suggest you to take a break and search for a job. Life is a long game. 2-4 months lost searching new job will not harm.
