Not a lawyer but I hope you go ahead with legal proceedings and get compensated. This drama is all about not owning the mistake and paying for the damage done. If the roles were reversed, the family would take every paisa they find of you.

All the best, as others suggested let the lawyers handle this. Also if you have assets to save, transferring to parent might help as things get bad.
