May 21, 2026 at 11:37 amPolice verification is just to make sure the person doesnโt have any cases registered against him and to verify address/ background cerification- technically they may also ask around in private if such a person lives in the locality.There is no need for police to verify any of the documents or ask for your parents documents. This is pure harassment. I have seen people complaining in reddit about police asking about certificates nobody has- just to harass. Like proof of citizenship etc ( there is no one single document in India to prove oneโs citizenship). Secondly- In your parentsโ birth certificate- even passport offices are not strict about birth certificates of people born before 1980. A letter from member of local body is sufficient. Coz in that era, many people were born outside Hospital and govt know that.
All certificates needed for your passport are already submitted by you to the passport office and they have verified the original.
This is just pure harassment to get more bribe. You must send an email to the SP of your area and raise this to the respective passport office. Central govt. Offices like passport offices are usually very strict about bribery. You will get a resolution.
