I don’t agree with that statement. There should be no ‘although’ or other conditions here imo. These are excuses used by people to not assimilate and later look down on the locals.

The exact same logic I would use for OP. I don’t see why the locals have to bend over backwards. It is very essential for communication and cultural integration.
