It’s a tough spot. Maybe others can advise better.

It will be very difficult if the victim herself doesn’t want to file a complaint.

Yes, you have freedom to criticise the law. But very often, governments across party lines slap sedition charges if you speak against them. They are finally thrown out by the court, but still you face the process that’s a punishment in itself.

Background of the law is that a person was smoking in a train in Kerala in front of a pregnant lady. The pregnant lady filed a writ petition, which led to the first ban on public smoking.

Ideally they are not supposed to, but nobody cares. As long as they aren’t actively practicing, its not a ground for termination from job.

I rarely get those sudden bouts of anger but I go to my room and sulk. Ultimately what am I getting by showing anger to those folks? But yeah, that’s not really helpful in most of the cases.

                        1. Self Defence ain’t worth getting into fights with people. 1 knife and you can never predict how it goes.

                        2. Self defence has 2 conditions- access to authorities not available and defence is proportional. If you kill someone if you’re in imminent danger, it’s going to be bad.

                        3. Random fights like this can escalate. If someone files a case on you for attempt to murder, you’ll require a lot of time, patience and resources to clear your name.

So, much better to avoid people.

Right now, what you need is marriage counselling. First try to go for that. If that fails, you have an option for divorce under Muslim law in India or the country of your residence may also be suitable. There is no guarantee that your daughter will remain with you after the marriage though.

A friend’s friend who works in Induslaw was very happy with the work culture there. Can check out their Lit team if you have an interest in litigation. A friend works in Justlaw- they pay you a lump sum salary bit the work is quite a lot. He’s planning to set up his independent practice.

First thing to understand will be if you actually want to do law. Rest comes later. See what a career in law typically entails and it you want it, and then decide to go for it.

There are several good institutions with a good 3 year LLB program. Most places have their own separate entrance for 3 year LLB. DU is cheap and convenient, NLS is expensive but the course is fairly rigorous.
