Before getting married, they must invest significant time in truly understanding each other—exploring their likes, dislikes, expectations, ambitions, and overall compatibility. A strong foundation is built on deep conversations and mutual understanding.

Beyond that, he should discuss real-life, scenario-based situations with her. This will provide invaluable insight into her mindset, reactions, and problem-solving approach, helping him make an informed decision.

Encourage him to be completely transparent about his past. Honesty fosters trust, and if he is open with her, she is more likely to be honest in return. A marriage built on honesty has a much higher chance of success.

Most importantly, he must be 100% certain before taking the plunge. Even the slightest hesitation—just 1% of doubt—should not be ignored. If he isn’t fully convinced, it’s better to step back than regret later.

Unfortunately, in India, there is no foolproof way to protect oneself and one’s family from false cases filed by a spouse. This reality makes it even more critical to make a well-thought-out decision rather than rushing into marriage blindly.

The only way i can think of is to create a scene in their office when there are other prospective customers present. As another user suggested, take two or three women with you to make an impact. The police will likely not intervene. However, even then, the chances of getting your money back are very slim.

Of course, you can file a complaint with the consumer forum, but there is no certainty about when the case will be heard.

Update: He hired a lawyer, who went to the police station to understand the matter. The police stated that no such case was registered in their diary or anywhere else. However, when the lawyer showed them the written statement that the police had made my BIL write, they dismissed it, saying it was just a piece of paper with no legal value.

The lawyer decided not to file an NC, as he feared that the girl’s family might retaliate by filing a false complaint, such as rape or something else. This concern arose because my BIL had gone to her house at night, and there were multiple witnesses present, including her parents, brother, her brother-in-law, and her uncle.

Yep. He made that mistake . The girl’s family is utterly shameless and disrespectful. My BIL’s mother and sisters have told the girl’s parents that they will never accept this marriage, even if he is somehow forced into it. He will not be allowed to live in the house after the marriage, and they have also stated that he will not receive any share of his father’s property. In fact, the girl’s elder sister also got married by torturing and blackmailing her husband.

Can he send the letter himself, or does he need to hire a lawyer? If so, what are the general fees in Mumbai? He is an ITI holder working on a contract basis, and I don’t think he earns more than 30K per month.
