      Lawyer here: Draft an agreement laying down all the details of the friendly loan being extended by you to your friend and get him to sign, notarise and register this agreement. Take few post-dated cheques from your friend as a form of security and the cheque numbers have to be mentioned in the agreement along with the reasons for issuance of the same. If your friend goes back on his word to repay you later, you may deposit the cheques for clearance and start cheque bounce proceedings if necessary.

          India has bilateral agreements with the UK to enforce judgments reciprocally. Therefore, a CCJ can be enforced in India by moving an appropriate Petition in the jurisdiction where your former tenants now reside.
