This makes sense. Not to trivialize your trauma OP, but most people today wouldn’t recognize most Bollywood stars or cricketers or singers these days if they passed them by. Unless you’re Shahrukh Khan or MS Dhoni, I’m not sure how a single tragic event in your life made you so famous that everybody recognizes you by face years later.

NAL. You can give power of attorney to a close relative. It will be a special power of attorney which is usually stamped/approved by the Indian consulate of the country you are living in. Check with your lawyer for exact details, but a simple power of attorney will not do. Once court accepts the PoA, virtual hearings can be conducted. In smaller towns, even a divorce by mutual consent can drag on for several months as judge may go on leave or lawyers may go on strike and such reasons. Sometimes judges have to manage their quota of judgements for specific months, and to make adjustment, they may extend dates for petty reasons, which can also cause delay. So take that into account.

As the old saying goes, if you lend money to a friend, you will lose both the money and the friend.

I’ve learned the hard way too.

Vegetable farmers in subzi mandis sell directly to consumers all the time. It is common for farmers who own lands close to urban areas to load their vegetables such as bhindi and gobhi in Tata Magic type of vehicle and sell directly to consumers in the local subzi mandi.

From the little I know of Delhi, Shahdara isn’t the most pleasant neighborhood. It’d be best for her to move out of there. For now, she can file a police complaint. It’s a case of eve-teasing.

She’s not your wife. You were not present at the scene. If you get involved, it could possibly result in the other party trying to smear the girl’s character claiming she has a boyfriend, hence she must necessarily be of a questionable character. As her boyfriend, you do not have much locus standi.

Moreover, if something were to happen to you, the girl and the guy on the bike will move on but you and your family will have to deal with the long term consequences.

I understand your frustration as a man, but sometimes we need to pick our battles. To be better prepared for a future eventuality where someone actually did this to your real family, hit the gym, become physically strong, train MMA, try to cultivate a large friend circle, and above all, become financially secure so you can drag people to court for clear violations of the law.

I’m also in a similar position. I made a reddit post about it recently and got mixed advice.

Based on the advice, I first decided to approach police. Police told me it is a civil matter and I should approach a lawyer. Police will file a complaint, but without court order, they cannot take any action.

At my request, they made a phone call to the person, and told him in a firm manner that he should return my money.

The person got scared and promised that he’d return it the same day.

However, so far he hasn’t returned. So now I am considering going to a lawyer and filing a suit for recovery.

Hello sir. Thanks for the reply. I live in a tier-2 city. Do you feel the evidence I have ( call recordings+whatsapp texts) would be sufficient? I don’t mind the matter taking its time in court. I’d also be ok if the other party would just come forward and enter into a legal agreement with me to repay in the next 6 months or 1 year. But the person has blocked me.
