Gather as much evidence you can and go to the NCW. If that doesn’t work, then post all the evidence on social media.

Then it’s less work for you. You’ll get the money anyways.

Oh shit no!! Don’t fill out temple forms and sign it, then your marriage will fall under the HMA, which is practically modern day slavery for men.

SMA requires giving a notice to the registrar and waiting for 30 days to finalise the marriage.

Avoid temples or any Hindu ceremonies at all costs.

It could backfire. I strongly suggest getting two independent lawyers for each of you, and also go for second opinions. The lawyer will tell you which documents have to be notarised and which ones require supporting documents to be legally binding. For example, the affidavit declaring income should go with bank and salary statements as disclosure etc.

Then the guy got lucky. Most women just stay in touch with their boyfriends or hookups just through chat and calls during the marriage phase. They carefully build and maintain a public persona from when the marriage discussions happen and till the wedding day. The only thing that PIs can reliably do is expose fake education and employment claims.

There are some important things that can’t be discovered using PIs. What did the people you know find out using a PI?

                  They’re useless for marriages.

There will be no legal issues, just practical ones. PIs can’t find out much, no matter how great they are. The maximum they can do is verify education and employment details and addresses and family tree to a small extent. They can never find out details about her personal life or what’s going on in the minds of her and her parents.

It’s complicated. Affidavits declaring income, education, gifts and marriage expenses will be held up in court if both sides are educated, or of similar socio economic backgrounds or had legal representation at the time of signing them. Otherwise, it can be ignored.

Even prenups are worth it nowadays, even though they aren’t legally binding. There has been a trend of judges accepting prenups for couples who married under the special marriage act, as the SMA does not treat marriage as a religious sacrament. The ā€œprenupsā€ are essentially a combination of MoUs and affidavits discussing various things that were signed with independent legal representation by both parties.

Judges often force couples to ā€œsettleā€, because the courts are clogged with a million pending civil disputes. The ā€œsettlementā€ usually screws over men due to the biased nature of our laws. I know men who came out of ugly divorces with only tiny scratches, because they had good lawyers and cleverly designed business arrangements or trusts.

If you’re about to get married, then forget the lavish wedding, and spend a few lakhs on lawyers, and encourage the woman to do the same. I guarantee, that things would go relatively smoothly if you separate in the future.

You’re either not a lawyer, or a very ignorant lawyer.

If you had taken a video, then that man would be sitting in a police station right now with nothing but his underwear. Nevermind, at least now you’ve learnt the importance of standing up for a fellow man.

Contact a lawyer ASAP. They’ll teach you how to tactfully collect evidence and build a solid case. Nobody should know that you’re contemplating a divorce until you actually file for it. Move in silence, because the system is built to exploit you and you can never be too careful.

Ignore her family. Contact a lawyer. Your life will only get more miserable if you don’t. I guarantee that. It’s better to lose an arm right now than to wait for the infection to spread to the whole body.

You too are at fault for not standing up for a fellow man. You didn’t even bother to record it on your phone and post it online.
