Just stop being the neighborhood watchdog when they’re getting busy, either look away or pretend it’s not happening. Not much else you can do about it, at least legally.

Also, I don’t see how this is any different from your neighbor one floor above banging someone while the person below hears all the noise from the moving furniture. Can we go and complain about that? Nope, we just deal with it.

Honestly just ignore them, they may try to bug you for a few weeks and move on to their new target.

If both individuals are under the age of consent, it is often the boys who end up in correctional facilities. This seems to be a common trend globally. What varies significantly is the age of consent, which depends on the specific region or country.

I’m not sure. My friend recently got her visa as the victim, while the accused was also someone I know. It’s a tough situation for me, caught between them, but a mistake is a mistake. She was on H4, but her kids were born in the U.S., which might have made a difference.

Yes, she can’t just call and report that he hit her 10 days ago unless she has proof. Otherwise, it becomes a case of her word against his.

What I meant is that the next time he commits any act of domestic violence, she needs to call 911. This will get him on record. Keep in mind that the police conduct thorough investigations and need to be convinced that actual violence occurred.

Also, Being a victim of domestic violence (which must be proven in court) can qualify her for a new visa category if she’s on a dependent visa. This would give her immediate work authorization, especially since the primary visa holder (H1) might face suspension, putting her and any dependent kids’ visas at risk.

Just so you’re aware, domestic violence is taken extremely seriously in the U.S. Your friend’s husband is just one call away from facing jail time, losing his savings to legal fees and bail, and jeopardizing his H1 visa. Reaching a mutual agreement would likely be his best option.
