After going to the customs desk at the airport to declare the gold that I am taking to wear at a wedding abroad. There was no officer present at the desk, so I called the phone number which was mentioned at the desk. They told me that I have to take that gold somewhere in the city where the customs have approved certain Gold valuers and get the gold valued and certified by them, and then come back to the airport and declare it at the airport and take a certificate from the customs. You think all this is possible while I am at the airport? I questioned the customs officer of the same, he told me simply to take the gold abroad and come back. No questions will be asked, and I asked him what if I fall into trouble with customs while I am back, he said, I will not get into trouble, he told me to explain the same to the customs officer and he said they have other ways to detect fraud and gold smuggling.WIf you have bank transfers details, like bank to bank or UPI, then get hold of a lawyer. If it’s hand cash, you can write it off as a bad debt and forget about it. Lesson learnt!
