Just took one yesterday, told my manager not feeling well might not login.

His response – take care dude, do not login. Will talk to you day after.

NAL – a few questions for you:

When was the last time, you spoke with this “friend” of yours?
What’s your POA to get the money back, if you decide to “help” him? I’m sure learned people on this sub might help you formulate it.
However, are you ready to go through all the trauma that’ll follow while you are chasing him for your own hard earned money?

In my personal experience, some people in India(not generalising) think guys living abroad earn so much, they even shit money. So they can spare a few thousand bucks and not care about it.

This person might be in genuine trouble, but if he cannot handle it himself now, what makes you think it’ll be better later?

        Food for thought!

Till that happens, use a sureshot solution, as soon as you hear that verbal diarrhea – disconnect and re-dial. Works everytime.

Confront him and tell him, had your father had enough guts to buy one, this society would have been so much better, 1 less chirkut to deal with.

Bro I’m stating what the Indian courts and our politicians have already said in the recent past. Why shoot the messenger. And did you not notice the sarcasm symbol????

I have made it a policy and I say that to whoever asks me for money – I don’t lend money as a principle. I know you are not like others and will repay in time, but I’ve had a few setbacks in the past where I lost money and the relationship.

The problem is that we as employees have given this power to such idiot managers by not speaking up, by not saying NO when needed and shying away from putting our opinion out there on the day to day activities.

Such people get power over us because they know the other person is spineless and won’t utter a word.

Don’t get me wrong in saying that you should learn to say NO to your managers, it means that if you are uncomfortable in doing something, speak up.

You don’t have to be a jackass, respectfully, professionally tactfully say, *I appreciate you giving me this opportunity, but unfortunately I don’t feel comfortable in doing it. I think the Team/Company/Project will benefit most if someone else will do it*

What this will do is push back the managers and let them know that you are not the one who’ll keep quiet and follow orders just like that.

Of course, this has to be done in genuine cases and not just every time.

In this particular case, when the employee was not able to perform up to the mark, (happens to the best of us), she should have told the manager that with all due respect, but I did not like your tone. I understand my performance was sub-par. I’ll make sure I’ll put in more effort and get it to the level that it should be on.

And regarding serving coffee, she should have straight away said NO. Self Respect??

Speaking up is very important, keeping quiet will only worsen the situation. My 2 cents.

Been working in the IT sector for over 20 years now, my initial years were like that too, but then I made a conscious effort and started taking my stand against such stupid managers and building healthy relationships with all my managers.
