UNo owner should EVER agree to this – having a tenant without proper tenancy agreement. Indian laws are very tenant friendly and in case you have a bad tenant without an agreement it takes YEARS to evict by due legal proceedings.UNAL.

It is not mentioned if they are staying on the strength of a tenancy agreement or not.
If they are staying based on a tenancy agreement and have bills in their name to the said address as evidence, then OP will be in definite trouble. If they are staying based on verbal agreement, etc, then its a different issue.But even then cops will check with neighbors etc. who was living there. Every since housing society has individual who will disklike someone…

UCommon areas of apartment buildings are not “public space” – they are common space for the residents. Not public space in the same sense as a public park.
