VYes, marriages solemnized outside India can be registered in India under the Foreign Marriage Act, 1969, provided one party is an Indian citizen and the marriage is valid under the laws of the country where it was performed.

The best legal way to go for it is file a quashing petition and get it quashed through the high court. It will be quicker remedy. Otherwise the police will file a closure report and then the state will file an appeal and then again it will go to the high court. Which means tension of around 1.5-2 years and several installments to the police officer.

Secondly, if you don’t wish to involve the police ask her to visit the police station and offer some money to a lady police officer and request to help her deal with the situation and then she’ll take care of it.
These are only two options left and if she is scared then hire a lawyer, pay him the amount and I am sure, he’ll be able to deal with it without much hassle.
