I am a first generation lawyer myself.

NLU is kinda a prerequisite in big companies and law firms.

Like a screening requirement. But there are ways to get past that.

It makes entry easier but I have seen plenty of dumb NLU grads and some very smart non NLU grads as well.

Being a first generation lawyer, i drifted towards corporate practice as opposed to Litigation.

          Hey.

I would advise spend a day with

          1. Someone in Litigation
          2. Someone working in Corporate

Check the firm’s and company where you would want to work and then check the educational qualification of those people.

It will give you some sense.

Studying from NLU is like doing IIT and seeking funding. Will always be easier.

But is getting into NLU easy? May be not.

Also, after a point it’s not a degree but your skills.

A non NLU grad can make more money than a NLU graduate.

But for some jobs and role, NLU is a like a perquisite.

I am a Corporate Lawyer (In house Legal Counsel) from a non NLU background.

If you have any specific questions. You could ask.

But before asking me check whether you can find the answer on Google

Learn to trust the professional whose experience and expertise made you go to him.

It’s a gift/inheritance so sale deed is rightly not required.

I am not sure about this.

Best to seek advice from a criminal lawyer who practices in High Court.

There is no standard rate card buddy.

Some lawyers charge on lumpsum some charge by hearing

Experience of the lawyer, location matter alot.

There is no standard rate card.

It depends on the experience of the lawyer, facts of the case, urgency involved and financial status of the client.

                        Sometimes you to a doctor.

They say the same generic advise that you may or may not know.

Just because it dint add any incremental value doesn’t mean the doctor won’t charge you.

OP could have googled something. But he dint want to rely on googles knowledge. Hence, he approached the lawyer.

Now if it was something basic then should the lawyer not charge the client?

A key maker can charge 500-1000 for a 5 min work which is 1.5/3k for 15 mins of labour.

But a qualified legal professional should not charge 5k for a consultation.

                          Seriously?

Also, dont look at cost in isolation. Look at it in terms of the property value.

If you still thinks it’s not worth it. Go to junior lawyers or freshers or reach out to Chat gpt.

Marry someone within the community and as economically weak or strong as you.

Marry if socially, politically and economically compatible.

Live away from parents. In a separate house.

Keep receipts of all big purchase.

Be aware of laws favouring women (presumption of dowry death)

Don’t be a dick. Don’t be taken for granted.

The amount is too small to get a lawyer or the courts involved.

You must ensure you leave a review about his behaviour on all SM sites possible.

You can at best save someone else.
