Its a husband / wife’s responsibility that they take care of their spouse and children. If the wife was given a reasonable asset – then from an inheritance standpoint – the FIL had made suitable provision.

The SIL should not be asking the FIL for funds, but he can request for help if the care of his wife is going beyond his means. This is something that needs to be worked out within the family.

        1. You dont get any ancestral property until you inherit it from your father.

        2. Your father can sell the property – provided its in your name.

        3. Your fathers debts can be cleared by his estate (assets at the time of his passing). In case there are no / less funds – then you may need to get into some kind of arbitration.

In a long life it’s a blip. You may not even remember these 2 months.

Walk away. If there is no paper trail connecting you to the company, it’s even better.

Thumb rule if you have banged him from the back – you will be regarded as not having maintained adequate distance – and therefore responsible.

Consult a traffic policeman for a quick opinion.

You may want to resolve this via your insurance company – but this may need a FIR – for the person in front to get paid. The case might take 2-3 years to close.

You are upset. Dont cut ties with your family but yes you can distance yourself from them. As someone who is funding the ancestral home – your brother may feel entitled.

Sustain relationships as best as you can and to the extent you can – you dont have to go overboard. Usually friends are the true family but a family function is also a place where the friend is out of place and even the distant relative becomes the close person.

Get a lawyer. Not sure how your case will go. I have seen courts award land to people who encroached or take their side. For the last 20 years the family has been trying to kick out encroachers – and this is with every judgement (6+ in HC) going in our favor.

At a basic level – get your papers in order and have your land surveyed (by the govt surveyor) and boundaries demarcated. Provided the land was partitioned in 1988 and documented in the land records – they will have no claim on the land.

By the looks of it, your cousins are more local – so may know how to fudge the land records. So getting your paperwork in order will be crucial.

If you have anything which is impacting their property – like a leaking pipeline – then you may be liable for the damages. So fix the problems so that there is no spill over.

if they have been using your pipeline – you could potentially bring this up as encroaching your property and using your pipeline without permission. As a matter of principle you could file for charges to be paid retrospectively as this resulted in a financial gain for them. This gives you a bargaining chip when it comes to settlement of the expenses.

If the three cousins have portioned the land amongst themselves – look to buy up the area adjoining your property with the condition that the seller will need to give as statement that torpedoes their case.

Reach out to a womens helpline – state your problem and get their guidance. Your parents are at risk of getting arrested – as your sister is below 18. Her would be husband will end up in jail for statutory rape. The marriage will not be recognised – as marriages now need to be recorded.

Please check the process for bringing up such issues in your workplace. Check with other senior officials you know or worked with personally, on how to handle such things.
Typically bureaucracy loves to punish it’s own without there being any official record.

The money is gone. You will need to spend a considerable amount of time and money if you go the legal route to recover the amount. If you know people who can recover the funds through alternative means – consider that as an option. If you are lucky you may get 50-75% back. Just remember that these are people who can be very unpleasant to deal with in every way.

You can ask a private detective to do a background check. I understand that this is a service that private eyes provide. Hopefully they will not cross boundaries which can break the law or invade the privacy of the individual.

I think the 5 year clause has gone away. Now Gratuity is payable pro- rata.
